Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Very impressed! Probably the best guacamole I've had in a restaurant in a long time! Sopitas are delicious!

Solid Place for Colorado. Good Margs! Good Food! Worth the drive from Aspen, if you want good Mexican. Good service.
(4)N S.
Came here on the recommendation of our airbnb host. We were not disappointed. Their margarita's are so good they will ruin you for any other, for the rest of your life. The food is very good too, Chili Colorado & Carnitas ample portions, and delicious.

Have been in a couple times to order sopapillas, both times the gentleman misunderstood what we wanted ,because he was not able to speak English....very frustrating !!

I visit Glenwood frequently and over the years I think the restrauant scene has deteriorated. Tequila's has grown on me over that time and is now my usual stop there. It is certainly the best Mexican food in town. And is is certainly by far the most popular with Mexicans. Spanish is the language amongst the most of the customers and it is popular with large families. Marg's are big - not fresh lime but pretty good. Chips and the two salsas are great. To get the good food, stay away from the standard burrito fare and order more authentic Mexican dishes like the Carne Asada or Tacos Al pastor. Portions are big, plates are hot, service is good.
(4)J J.
Good American / Mexican food. Wait service was very good. Really good salsa.
(3)K B.
Worst food ever.....we think they chopped fish sticks for the fish tacos....couldnt even eat the fajita quesadillas....dissappointing
(1)Cindy B.
Very disappointed! Have been here several times before. Pedro, our waiter leaned across my plate (once when I had food on the fork!) several times. Brought my husbands fajitas out left them for 5 minutes before my meal and the rest of his came out. My meal had tough, overcooked chicken that tasted like a can of tomato sauce and some hot peppers had been poured over it. Pedro never checked back to see how the meal was and the rest of the staff had a hard time keeping my juice sized water glass full. He was really quick to take the check, though. The Tecate and the guacamole were good. We won't be back, there HAS to be a better choice for Mexican food in Glenwood Springs!
(1)Zara W.
We came here off of a locals suggestion. Being that my boyfriends is Mexican we didn't expect too much. I really wish we had read some of the previous reviews. The chorizo con queso was nothing more than velveeta, bland ground beef and a can of rotel. My boyfriends tortillas were served 10 min before his dish was served. The steak ranchero which was recommended by the waitress had no flavor what so ever. It was simply a piece of unseasoned steak with rice and beens. The vegetables were over cooked and the plate had sat under the heat lamp so long the beans were crusting on the outside of the plate. My dish which was the Santa Fe Salad boasted of grilled chicken and a crispy tortilla under the salad. There were no grill marks on any of the chicken and it tasted like it had been boiled. Oh and that crispy tortilla was not. It was a plain tortilla that had been placed under all the lettuce. By the time I got down to the tortilla it was soggy and gross, just gross. In the end the food was WAY over priced and nowhere near quality. I would recommend going elsewhere

This is the second time I have been here and the food is good. But they must not like older woman that dine alone. I have had the same experience both times. Mostly I am ignored. I get set at a tiny table that will barely hold my plate and drink. I have to get up and go to the front counter for silverware. Etc. I thought the first time it was just one of those things. But not twice. I man came in after me and was dining alone. He got a regular size booth. Hum.........
(3)Toni C.
My family ate here on vacation. The food was awesome! My husband and I both had steaks and they were the best steaks we have ever had at a mexican restaurant! It was really delicious. The restaurant was slammed, which is always a good sign. The staff was very professional and nice! Because they were so busy it was a little slow, but the waiter checked on us a few times. I could tell the staff was hustling around, which I appreciated. We will definitely go there again when we come back to visit! Thanks for the great food!
(5)Tim R.
Our entrees were excellent. I had the Chipotle Chicken, which was delicious. Very spicy and it had a great smokey flavor. My wife had the Carne Asada, which she said was very good. Chips were average but the Margaritas and Piña Colada were tasty. Service by our waiter was very good.
(4)Craig H.
The huevos rancheros and sopapilas are always spot on. Great chimichangas and pollo asado as well. Always recommended for great mexican food!
(4)Katy S.
In Texas we love our Tex-Mex so it's hard to go into a Mexican restaurant north of the Red River without being somewhat jaded. We loved it. Try the pawn fajitas. Try the cabbage salsa. Try the enchiladas. Delicious. The food is fast. Bring your family here, they even have food for the picky kids in your party.
(4)Chelsea V.
This place gets the job done when you are craving a platter-sized serving of good Mexican food to shovel into your face! The food is the usual Mexican fare including burritos, tacos, fajitas and the like. They understand the absolute necessity of beans and rice, so most menu items come with both. You can pass up the guacamole....if you're mentally impaired! It is made from scratch and fresh. Get it! The atmosphere itself is your standard cheesy Mexican restaurant decor with sombreros and those bench seats that are carved with jungle looking themes and painted bright colors. But don't worry, once you get two or three of the pretty cheap margaritas in you, you won't even notice the decor. The staff are very friendly and efficient. Most of them are Hispanic which is nice, because you know you are getting the real deal! Plus, they are always very patient and let me practice my rusty Spanish with them! The only downside to this place is the small a$! parking lot! If it is busy it can be tricky finding a parking spot. This small hassle is totally worth putting up with for an amazing burrito though! Tequila's is always a safe and reliable choice for Mexican fare when you crave it.
(4)Nicole T.
BF and I shared the Carnitas de Puerco and a chile rellano a la carta. Food was great. Hot, fresh and delicious. My margarita tasted like fresh lime instead of a pre-mix. Service was friendly and attentive even though they were slammed. The staff knows how to hustle.
(4)Kevin E.
Food was fantastic! Service was wonderful and all the staff was very friendly. My Son said it was the best taco.
(4)Brandon M.
Best family mexican good in town. The wait staff will make sure your treated like family and never expect your water glass or drink to go empty. Chips and salsa are fresh and phenomenal. The plates are massive. Don't go in without an appetite unless you plan on having lots of left overs for the next day. If you come to Glenwood springs, try here. As a local I personally recommend the following three dishes: camarones apretelados, chile colorado, and sabanitas
(5)Tequila J.
Not what I'm used to, the Tequilas in Golden, Lakewood, Arvada, and Durango all have excellent food and service. My tequila was served in a martini glass, service was mediocre, and food was above average.
(3)Andrew N.
Tequilas is solid. Fairly safe Mexican fare, but executed well. Their free cabbage salsa may be the best chip topping ever. Service is quick, and a good value proposition. Our last dinner for two including tip was $33 (full disclosure, no alcohol), and we had plenty left for lunch the next day.
(4)Matt F.
Worst. Margaritas. Ever. People were nice, but doesn't make up for the terrible food and atrocious cocktails.
(1)June H.
Great food! We usually go to the Evergreen location but we were in Glenwood Springs. Our favorite is the combination for two. Try it! One margarita will get you going. Enjoy!
(4)Kit M.
It is just the best... Anywhere you go, but especially the one in Glenwood Springs. A New Year's Eve tradition for my family for over a decade, amazing food, especially cabbage salsa, amazing Margaritas and micheladas, friendly and festive staff. Love!
(5)Kathy C.
The cabbage slaw was delicious! We ordered chicken lettuce wraps and chipotle chicken enchiladas. Both were very good, as was the service. We could walk from our hotel, another plus due to the weather.
(4)Jay A.
Huge portions and great service. Margaritas were delicious. Chips were not fresh but good other than that.
(4)David P.
This place was jut a stereotypical homemade Mexican restaurant. The prices are pretty high for the food but you do get a large amount of food. Overall the service was kind of slow and with the prices being relatively high nothing really stood out to me as fantastic. I would probably just go to the Taco Bell down the street next time.
(3)Jay R.
The salsa, especially the Pico which looked and tasted more like a Mexican cole slaw was fantastic. I had the Chicken burro and was very satisfied, my wife's bean and avocado tostada was just OK, my Mother in-law had the Green Chile and was happy but has had better, and my father in-law really liked the seafood burro. Overall the chips and salsa were great, the food good but not great and the service was good. I'd go again if I were in the area.
(3)Kholie P.
Food was not great. Its kind of painful to re-live it but for the sake of this review... The diablo shrimp is supposed to be spicy but tasted like marinara. Margarita's were very generic. Asked for a manager but they never came. The salsa was probably the best part of the meal. Save your money go someplace else!
(2)Blanca L.
During a recent road trip we stayed in Glenwood Springs and decided to try this place for dinner. I got the chicken mole thinking it was going to be traditional thick mole made with many spices and ingredients. Well what a disappointment! My so called mole turned out to be some thickened enchilada sauce with a few pieces of chicken breast thrown in it, absolutely no flavor to the sauce that tasted like thickened flour. The plate also came with rice, re-fried beans, and store bought tortillas. These were just OK, nothing special and the rice seemed a little dried out and old. The other people in my group all ordered enchiladas which they said were OK nothing special. To drink I ordered an orchata which tasted watered down and probably was just from an instant mix rather than from scratch. I kept seeing people come in to eat in or for take out and I kept asking myself "why would anyone come here?" Then I realized those people were not Mexicans coming to eat. I am Mexican and I grew up on authentic Mexican food but this restaurant doesn't serve true Mexican food and the quality is very low. I wouldn't try this place again and don't recommend anyone else try it unless you want fake Mexican food with no flavor.
(1)Ryan T.
I did not like this place, but my wife did so maybe if your in the mood for Mexican food it is worth a try. Try the lunch menu then you will not spend so much only to be disappointed.
(3)Stuart S.
The company was great and we enjoyed ourselves but overall, a somewhat unremarkable Mexican joint with the exception of portion size. The tableside pico/cabbage (not sure what it's called) was the most interesting part of the meal, but served with bland, store-bought tortilla chips. The rest being fairly standard fare that you'll find in most Mexican restaurants. Go if you're hungry.
(2)Carrie H.
Killer Margaritas and excellent authentic food. I love the Camarones a la Diabla (Devils Shrimp) because it's yummy-spicy! Very busy during regular dinner hours, be prepared to wait or go early. I think they'll save you a table if you're going in with a large party. They will also do separate checks.
(4)Alfred L.
Food was good, service was great, drinks were nice and strong and they are open late. Chances are, you will have leftovers.
(4)Jeremiah F.
I love this place! Friendly staff. Awesome chips and salsa. The BEST Margaritas and carnitas de res!
(5)Demitri R.
I wondered in around Lunch time. Ordered the Beef Burrito Lunch Special. Nothing outstanding about it, but it was tasty and got the job done. Typical Green chili not to spicy. The Chips and Salsa were good, and came with some Shredded lettuce type stuff splashed in Vinegar, it had a nice texture and loaded up on the chips nicely. Ordered a Frozen margarita and they loaded it up with Jose Cuervo. Now the Sopapillas OMG. Beyond Mind Blowing. With the Cinnamon and Sugar and Whipped Creme and the honey. Light and Airy and oh so tasty.
(4)Teresa T.
I was on vacation visiting my sister. On July 5, 2014, we asked to sit outside in the shade; we were put in the sun. Karen was our server. I asked her what a Chalupa Salad was; she said a tortilla, meat & you know. I was like what! She did not ever come to refill our water, cabbage salsa or chips. She did not ask me how I wanted my beans with my poblano enchiladas. She sat down our order behind us; didn't even make eye contact & walked away. The only time she came was at the end of our meal. Absolutely AWFUL SERVICE; if you get her as your server, run out the door!
(1)Bruce F.
Excellent chips and salsa served just the way I like it. House made chips and salsa with a little heat, onion and oregano. Additionally the chips were served with a cabbage slaw which I haven't experienced before and very much enjoyed. Long wait for delicious grilled chicken breast with chipotle sauce. Great chipotle flavor with mild heat. My favorite type of Spanish rice with vegetables and good refried beans too. MASSIVE portion!!!
(4)Katie W.
Pretty good Mexican food for Colorado. The service is friendly. We had a short wait for a table, the place was packed at 6 pm on a Saturday. Great for kids.
(4)Casey M.
Great food. The salsa bar was key. Was so good, we bought extra to take home even on our several hundred mile drive home. We will be going back again on our drive through Colorado in June.
(4)William H.
My food was great and it wasnt a small amount of food the staff was very nice and helped make our visit great. The servings were very large and filling also were delicious.
(5)Gail D.
This was a good place to go for a quick meal next to my hotel. Margarita was excellent, the salsa served was very good and very unique. The chips served seemed a bit stale. I had the pollo verde which I highly recommend.
(3)Wayne W.
Great food at a reasonable price. Service is great too.
(4)Jason L.
Great Mexican food, and that says a lot coming from a central Texas boy, where mexican food restaurants grow on trees. The food was served hot and fresh, and HUGE portions, even I had trouble cleaning my plate, but I did. Cheese Echiladas were excellent and service was good. Sit out on the patio if the weather is nice, you cannot beat the view of the mountains. I enjoyed my visit. Recommended.
(4)David K.
Really, really good food. I got taquitos rancheros it was awesome. Nice meat and not smothered in a bunch of stuff. I would highly recommend going here. I can't wait to introduce this place to my travel mates!
(5)Katy G.
Food - extremely mediocre. Quite tasteless and not well prepared. Chips are hard, salsa tastes like it was stretched with tomato paste, and the margarita was expensive and very sweet. The spicy slaw that is served with the chips and salsa was a unique touch that was about the tastiest item of the visit, but certainly not spicy. The pork in my dish was overcooked and hard, and despite adding sides of sour cream, guacamole, most of a bowl of the tomato paste that was called salsa, and a LOT of hot sauce, the dish had virtually no flavor. It did, however, have a LOT of iceberg lettuce, so if you like lettuce, you might be happy. On the positive side, the service was good, and the food arrived quickly. I visit Glenwood often, and this will not be a stop again.
(1)David P.
A friend and I arrived for lunch around 130 pm on a Wednesday. We were promptly seated in a booth. Chips and salsa arrived quickly, along with drink service. Chips were poor. Tasted as though they were bought at the grocery and then baked to heat. Most were dark and over cooked. Salsa was heavy on tomato paste flavor with no real spice. The Pico (much like cole slaw) was very good! We ordered and very generous lunch portions arrived on VERY Hot plates. But somehow the food wasn't that hot. Re-fried beans were more like a bad syrup. Rice was crunchy and had obviously been cooked early in the day and left to brown all morning. Shredded beef was acceptable, but chimichanga seemed to be cut short by potatoes. Not used to fillers in my Mexican food. I don't know their recipe, so will accept without complaint. Overall service was far better than the food. Drink refills were speedy, restaurant was clean. Though flies in bathroom and the one I killed at the table were a distraction.
(2)Becky M.
The food is very bland! We ordered burritos smothered in green chili and it had no flavor at all, it also costs extra! Very unlike Colorado. My husband also got a rellano which was probably the best of the whole meal. I would probably get fajitas if you must go here! Or just stick to chips salsa and margaritas!
(2)Andrea C.
Loved the cabbage salsa! Got to eat on the patio. The waitstaff was fast for how packed it was. Perfect choice for dinner.
(4)Cindy S.
Fantastic service, wonderful margs and tasty food!!! Would recommend!
(4)Chris B.
very expensive considering the other options of restaurants. Service was good
(3)Mark Z.
I love the food here, i think it should be at lest a 4 star. The only bad thing I had was their chips, but when you eat them with their salsas wow!
(4)Ryan L.
Awesome margaritas! All you need is two! I love the carne asada and the chips and slaw are spicy and delicious! This is one of my favorite spots when in glenwood springs. Service is always excellent and the tag team style ensures they wont miss anything/
(5)Robert B.
Horrible food! This place is only good for a happy hour drink and some chips. I ordered chilie rellenos and instead of green chilie they put on this red sause that looked and tasted like watered down ketchup. Another person in my party ordered a soft taco with chicken. The chicken was drentched in the same ketchup sauce and the tortillia was a soggy corn tortillia. Even though the staff was good, I will never ever set foot into this place again.
(1)Ward F.
The visit: Good; if you've been to a family-style Mexican restaurant, you've been to this family-style Mexican restaurant. o Went in for lunch about 1. o Was 1 of 3 tables, not very busy at all. o From seated-to-water&chips: less than 5 minutes. o Order taken in about 5 minutes. o 5-10 minute wait for food. o Ordered food, soda, no liquor. The restaurant: Ok overall. o Could use a little work. The front door squeaks and the coming in from the patio, the door slammed behind me. o Ate on the patio; the tables, chairs were in fine repair. The service: Professional and Courteous o The staff was perfectly pleasant and the service was prompt. o The staff didn't seem super enthusiastic to be working on a Saturday afternoon, but it's hard to blame them. Summary: It's a good restaurant; I'd recommend it if you're in the mood for American-style Mexican food.
(3)Scott B.
Some of the best Mexican food I've had in a long time. Chili relents were great and ranchero tacos were awesome. Salsa had a nice kick to it and guacamole was great. My entire family greatly enjoyed it.
(5)TT P.
What the f*ck is this sh*t?? Was it even Mexican? My Carne Asada plate was more like an unmarinated slab of leftover cow dung. And the tortillas? They taste like god damn Mission Tortillas! After one bite, I refused to eat any more. Perhaps, growing up with and working around Mexicans in SoCal has gotten me spoiled to authentic Mexican food. This place is a joke! More like Mexican food catered for white people (Half a step from Taco Hell).
(1)Mike N.
Went here on a busy Saturday night during the summer. The wait was kind of long, and the service was kind of slow. Margaritas weren't anything special, food was just alright. Try another restaurant downtown if you have time.
(2)Sara P.
Tostada description says it comes with rice and beans and choice of tortilla or salad. False. It came with a ton of iceberg lettuce, and buried underneath barely visible let alone taste-able was something that was supposed to pass as rice and beans? COMPLETELY tasteless and a waste of money. This is all I had and all I can comment on. Fail!
(1)M P.
Local review Order the sizzling steak or chicken fajitas here with a side of roasted jalapenos. Salsa is spicy but excellent. Upgrade your margarita to don Julio or tres generaciones for only fifty cents. Very popular on weekends so come early. Excellent service
(5)Ron N.
Went here for a change from the upscale/trendy restraunts that my colleagues have chosen. We were all happy with our choice. The waiter was a very nice guy named Odanel. My vegetarian coworkers were able to find options that still tasted good such as the spinich enchiladas and cheese enchiladas. I enjoyed my Zuisa Enchilada (I hope I didnt butcher the spelling of the dish) which was 2 chicken enchilladas with a green sauce. It was nice and mild.
(4)Catharine S.
Friendly people, quick service and good food. Portions were large and the cabbage salsa was delicious! Highly recommend for anyone wandering through Glenwood Springs.
(5)Minny R.
If you're looking for an unpretentious Mexican restaurant that serves generous portions of food with quick and decent service, this is a good choice. I loved the booths, large windows and festive Mexican atmosphere. Traditional Mexican music played in the background; the staff sung "Happy Birthday" in Spanish and English to a customer. The chips & salsa were decent and the service of the waitress was impressive. For example, I did not need to ask her for a refill on my drink. She grabbed my glass without asking and promptly filled it. (That might seem simple, but oh do I have stories of server nightmares...) The food: All in all, it was decent. My tamale and taco were tasty. However, the beans that came with my entree were almost like a liquid - it was a bean-paste... not actual beans. The rice was somewhat overcooked, but I actually like my rice on the crunchy side. (Although admittedly, my friend who dined with me did not appreciate it.) Having said that, a simple lunch platter of a tamale, taco, beans & rice (with complimentary chips and salsa) was more than enough to make me quite full when I exited. That's my kind of place! :)
(4)Janel L.
We are on a roll!! Another get experience in Glenwood Springs. Portion size was huge at a good cost. Lil embarrassed that we dont speak Spanish but out waiter worked with our Ca tongue. We ate the Chili Verde and Chili Colorado both had lots of flavor and the meat was very tender.
(5)Scotty V.
Consistantly good food everytime and great service. Its your typical Mexican Rest and at the end of the day when ya too tired to think about where to eat.....its always good fast and easy.
(4)Lee R.
Great service, great food, large portions, nice outdoor patio. Attentive waiters and friendly staff.
(5)Iris B.
Was looking for a healthy option so i went with the spinach enchiladas which i've never had before but when it arrived it was completely saturated with butter to the point that i think it may have ended up being the least healthy option available. Also ordered a classic margarita and was looking forward to it, but ended up coming in a basic water glass which ruined the margaritas appeal...i don't care what anyone says...the glass makes a difference! I would skip this place...besides the people working there looked quite miserable and forgot their basic etiquette class.
(2)Sarah D.
The margaritas were mediocre and expensive, but damn were they strong! The food was average but generous. I don't think I'd go back anytime soon.
(3)David H.
This place is the best for Mexican food in the Glenwood Springs area! The Carne Asada is wonderful. Ask for an authentic Michelada con Tecate' (Mexican red beer). The cabbage salsa is very unique and addictive. You can't go wrong at Tequila's!!!!
(5)Anna R.
Delicious, authentic and cheap! Loved this place. REALLY great chips and salsa!!!
(4)Ramon G.
If I could give 4.5 rating I would. Go there thirsty and hungry. The salsa came out and went great with a margarita. I got 2 different kinds of salsa, the typical tomato based and a chunky vinegar, cabbage and veggie type. This was great seeing since I have only had this in Mexico. AFter about 4 margaritas.....I guess anything would have tasted good!! BUT it just kept getting better. The carne asada was soooo tasty. Good charcoal flavor. Beans, rice, guac...the whole works. The plate of food was ginoromous so eat slow. I am leaving off .5 off just because it can get a little loud and hectic in the place.
(4)michael m.
Margs are 7.50 and by the glass only. Food is ok. Most items are mild. Mole sucks. High price for ok food.
(2)Zoe N.
I love this place! Delicious salsa and chips and yummy bean burritos. The booths are really comfortable and atmosphere is great!

Very impressed! Probably the best guacamole I've had in a restaurant in a long time! Sopitas are delicious!

Solid Place for Colorado. Good Margs! Good Food! Worth the drive from Aspen, if you want good Mexican. Good service.

(5)Ramon G.
(2)Andrew N.

(4)Jay R.

(4)Matt F.
Worst. Margaritas.
Love!
